How this ambitious project evolved
The photo at the right is of the second floor of the barn "before" the initial clean up began. The photo below shows the second floor, finished. Note the timber frame skeleton that now gives the structure support. The Uniontown Community Development Association (UCDA), the non-profit public development authority run by volunteers that was the visionary and implementer of the art center idea, completed the re-construction with private donations, grants from a variety of public agencies and private foundation, and thousands of volunteered hours. Therefore, there are no mortgage payments on the facility. This enables UCDA to promise the participating artisans the lowest possible rental rates. The operating budget is a "make ends meet" budget, with no profit built in.Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Donations provide for ongoing support of the facility and for capital improvements.Donations may be made to Artisans at the Dahmen Barn. All donations are tax deductible and donors may specify a specific use for the funds. Donors may mail checks made to Artisans at the Dahmen Barn, to P O Box 36, Uniontown WA 99179. A written receipt will be sent, and donors may be listed on the website at their request.OUR WISH LIST:~ a water softener ($850)~ a digital projector for Power Point presentations ($200)~ a digital camera artists can use to photograph their work for their web pages ($300)~ funds to help with ongoing operations and programs (any amount is appreciated)~ funds for scholarships for our classes, given to deserving children or adults (any amount helps)~ funds for the construction of an addition that gives a larger classroom space and several larger studios ~ funds to improve the parking and grounds

Gene and Sharon Dixon
At every turn we are reminded of the generous contributions of time and talent from Gene and Sharon Dixon. They were each featured separately in the past, but it is time to applaud them again. They both have been closely involved with the Barn from the time it was donated to the community in 2004. They were among the volunteers who shoveled out the leavings of the pigeons who occupied the hay loft for half a century, and helped along the way with the reconstruction.Gene has served on the UCDA (the non-profit community organization that developed the Barn) board since its inception in 2002, and also currently serves as the vice president of the Artisan Barn Board of Directors.Gene is our photographer. extraordinaire. He tirelessly documents what we do and never grumbles when we give him an assignment with a tight time frame. He also updates the readerboard sign that informs highway traffic of our events and transfers to a spreadsheet the information from the guest book in our foyer. Gene helps with set up and tear down for our music and special events moving chairs and tables from floor to floor.Sharon is a whirlwind of energy. She has been known to climb out on the timber frame upstairs to catch cobwebs and she also maintains the flower beds at the front of the Barn. Sharon is known for her exquisite quilting skills and designed and hand made a beautiful quilt that we raffled as a fund raiser. The quality of Sharon's quilting is widely known, so 2500 people bought a chance to win the piece. It had an embroidered version of the Barn in the center and was done in Palouse greens and golds. Sharon assists Julie in The Shop when needed and is someone who is always willing to sell refreshments or take money at the door for our events if she is available. We wish we could clone Sharon.Together, Gene and Sharon put up and take down the Christmas lights on the wheel fence, which is not a fun job when it is below freezing. Last year they donated all new LED lights! We really appreciate all that Gene and Sharon do for us at the Barn.
