Artist Statement and "Contrast" painting
Artist Statement: I began painting watercolors because I love the loose flowing style that often has an impressionistic feeling. I continue to strive for this look and feeling in my paintings. My goal is to have fun, stay challenged and hopefully produce work that can transport the viewer to a different place or mood.Katherine (Kat) Clancy has dabbled in art for most of her life. She began a serious pursuit in learning watercolor painting in 1992, taking private lessons with Linda Wallace. She has also taken watercolor workshops with Michael Schlicting, Linda Doll, Carol Barnes, Gloria Miller Allen, Marilyn Hughey Phillis, James Soares and Stan Miller. She is a member of the Palouse Watercolor Socius, Palouse Women Artists and Idaho Watercolor Society. She has had solo exhibitions at the Moscow Food Co-op Gallery Space,Bank Left Gallery in Palouse, WA and at the Artisan Barn. She has had paintings juried into the Idaho Watercolor Society annual show, the Spokane Watercolor Society Annual show and the Palouse Watercolor Society Juried show.She has paintings in private collections in San Diego, Spokane, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Moscow. Her work is also on permanent display at the University of Idaho and Gritman Medical Center. Photos of her work accompanied an article about a U of I course in fine arts and business in the April 2006 Idaho Business IQ magazine. Kat currently shares a studio at the Artisan Barn.
