All of our treasured volunteers who move tables and chairs for events
It struck me the other day how many trips over the past 6+ years our tables and chairs have made between floors in the Barn and to the yard for outdoor events. Before we had the elevator, the furniture had to be hand carried up and down the stairs between the three levels. Now, with a dolly and the elevator, the job is easier on the volunteers. We have 125 chairs, and some events require that they all be moved into place, then back to the storage area, sometimes several times a month! Shown here is a "full house" concert using all the chairs. We also designed and built some dance floor panels for occasional use outdoors. They, too, are moved and set up by our volunteers. We couldn't do what we do at the Barn without all the willing, able bodied helpers.THANKS SO MUCH!

Phase 1 construction will be starting on the loafing shed, the out building on the NW corner of the Barn. The old structure will be stabilized, and a new concrete slab with utilities installed. As funds are raised, there will be two restrooms, a kitchen, badly needed storage space and a large multi-purpose room for classes and events. Future phases will replace the loafing shed structure and add space for several large studios to the west along with a stage for outdoor performances using the hillside as an amphitheater.Forward progress on this expansion will depend on funds we receive from grants, private parties and businesses. The Barn is a 501c3 organization, so donations are tax deductible.Click on Join Us on the Sustaining the Barn heading for the details, including online donation capability..

Look what good friends can do!
The photo at the right is of the second floor of the barn "before" the initial clean up began. The photo above shows the second floor, finished. Note the timber frame skeleton that now gives the structure support. The Uniontown Community Development Association (UCDA), the non-profit public development authority run by volunteers that was the visionary and implementer of the art center idea, completed the re-construction with private donations, grants from a variety of public agencies and private foundation, and thousands of volunteered hours. Therefore, there are no mortgage payments on the facility. This enables UCDA to promise the participating artisans the lowest possible rental rates. The operating budget is a "make ends meet" budget, with no profit built in.Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Donations provide for ongoing support of the facility and for capital improvements.Check out Join Us on the Sustaining the Barn section to see who has donated during the present campaign year.
