I do not remember discovering wood as a material to do things with; it was always there as I wandered in the woods as a boy, making things out of branches of trees and found objects. Even back then, making seemed to be my life’s work. My early days as a professional woodworker were spent in the shop building furniture and cabinets. And even though I did not start out to be a sculptor, it occurred to me early on that my work was sculptural, because it was three dimensional. This realization gradually led me to explore form beyond function, into sculpture for its own sake. My investigation with sculpture is into purity of form, while my aesthetic sense seeks visual balance and an interpretation of that which I hold to be beautiful. Sculpture is my opportunity to connect with people, to add joy to their lives and to expand their perceptions.
